Faisal Hashmi is a award-winning UAE-based independent filmmaker with a number of award-winning short films and branded content under his belt. During his college years, he started screenwriting only to realize that only he had the right vision to translate his crazy ideas to screen. This led to his first two amateur short films during his college term. Being a huge film geek and attracted to the larger than life quality of cinema, he was burnt out by the fact that there was almost zero drive for youth filmmaking in UAE.
At the age of 21, his short film ‘Perfect Living’ screened at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner in May 2011 & won Best Film at Season of Film judged by acclaimed Emirati director Nawaf Al-Janahi. His much larger next film ‘Bubble’ proved to be a lasting success, winning Best Film by the American Islamic Congress and playing at multiple film festivals across the world with many more screenings this year. The film was widely viewed by hundreds of film professionals in the region and connected with audiences around the world with international film festivals screening getting it global acclaim. His latest horror short film ‘Scrambled’ played in six international film festivals and won a Best Film award, and he followed that with his 48 Hour Film Project horror film ‘Cold Feet’, that won 4 awards. Combined, his short films have more than 100,000 views on Youtube and counting.
